How to Reset Your Android Phone

Why

You might want to reset your android phone for many reasons. The phones run slowly and the memory storage is almost full, which you wish to reset the phone so as to speed it up. You update the system but it failed, and you need to reset the phone to see if it worked. Maybe you forget your lock passwords, have no choice but factory reset. Or you want to factory reset android before selling the old Android device. These all could be the reasons to reset your phone. So, how to factory reset android seems to be a difficult task towards the Android newbie. Here is a step-by-step guide for those who want to reset their phones to factory settings but don't know how.

As there are so many different Android devices, let's take Samsung Galaxy S6 as an example to explain.

Factory Reset

Generally speaking, performing the factory reset through the settings menu is the easiest way. There might be slightly different in the location of the factory reset settings, depending on what kind of phones you're using. But if you've found the "backup and reset" menu, definitely you will find the factory data reset option.

1. Tap the Settings icon from your home screen


2. Scroll down. In the Personal heading, tap Backup and reset



3. Tap Factory data reset at the bottom


4. Tap RESET DEVICE




5. Tap DELETE ALL



Your phone will reboot to the factory default settings and configuration as you first use it. All your data will be deleted.

Hard Reset

If your phone is stuck in some troubles and you are unable to reboot it, then you will need to go into Android recovery mode, that is, hard reset. Normally, holding down a Volume button and the Power button is the way to get into Android recovery mode. However, different kinds of Android phones will have different way to recovery mode. 

Most of the Android devices use Volume Down and Power buttons, or the Power and Home buttons. Nexus devices use the Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons. Samsung devices use the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons. Moto X use Volume Down, Home and Power buttons.

Still use Samsung Galaxy S6 as an example to show how to perform a hard reset.

1. Power off your Android phone


2.  Press Volume Up button, Home button and Power button simultaneously. You will in the Android Recovery Mode soon


3. Use the Volume buttons to scroll through the menu with highlight, Power button to select


4. Highlight wipe data/factory reset by pressing the Volume Down button, then press the Power button to select


5. Select and highlight Yes to confirm the reset


6. After the reset finished, you will return to the same Recovery Mode menu. Press the Power button to select Reboot system now to restart your phone


When it completed, you will got an Android phone like a brand new one, which you can restore your backup data. 

Reset with Android Cleaner

The data you deleted with the two methods above, however, can be easily recovered by most of the Data Recovery Software.
